Join Janne and Hanna on their way into tech with kood/Jõhvi
At kood/Jõhvi, every sprinter has a unique story. This time, we’re going to share the experiences of two remarkable women, Janne and Hanna, who are exploring the options of changing their lives and careers to find futures in the tech world.
From Finance to Coding – Janne’s Journey
At 45, Janne found herself at a career crossroads. With an education in catering and 16 years in finance, the leap to IT was not one she took lightly. “I wanted to feel young again,” Janne explains with a smile. The decision to join kood/Jõhvi was spurred by the promise of acquiring a new specialty within just 12 months, a pace that traditional education could not match. “I was considering Tallinn University for IT studies until I heard about the exciting program at kood/Jõhvi through my husband’s coworker. I chose kood/Jõhvi because of the chance to gain a new specialty in just 12 months. Plus, I read some reviews that said you can learn more here in a year than in three years of high school!”
“I must admit, it’s tough diving into IT with no prior experience, especially since it’s been 25 years since I last hit the books. But hey, I’m down for a challenge!”
Her advice to future sprinters? “Don’t lose sight of the goal just because things get tricky!”
From Art to Algorithms – Hanna’s Shift
Hanna, 24, has always been drawn to art and architecture, but a twist of fate redirected her path towards technology. After not getting accepted into traditional schools, Hanna considered kood/Jõhvi as an alternate route, intrigued by the potential to explore her creative passions through coding.
The Selection Sprint at kood/Jõhvi was a defining moment for Hanna. “The Sprint itself went quite well; I had the fortune of staying in the kood/Jõhvi building, and I think that made my experience a lot better.” Living and working alongside her peers not only enhanced her learning experience but also forged lasting bonds. “My roommates and I leaned a lot on each other, asking questions when we didn’t understand or explaining concepts to each other.“
Hanna’s practical tip for incoming sprinters: “Meal prep! Having a week’s worth of food to heat up saved me since most of my brain power went to studying.“
Janne and Hanna’s stories reflect the vibrant and inclusive community at kood/Jõhvi, where backgrounds in finance, art, or anything in between can find a new expression in tech. Their journeys are different, but their destination is the same: learning to code and finding a fulfilling career in technology, built on the foundations of challenge, community, and continuous learning.
