We spoke with Eliisa<\/strong>, Kadri<\/strong>, and Esther<\/strong> – three participants in the kood\/Empower<\/a> second bootcamp – to hear what motivated them to try coding, what surprised them most, and what they\u2019d tell anyone thinking about giving it a shot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meet the participants<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Eliisa<\/strong> is 32 and works as a video editor and a stage\/studio manager.
Kadri<\/strong>, 28, is part of the marketing team at Apollo Cinema, focusing on partnerships and client projects.
Esther<\/strong>, 36, works as a teacher\u2019s aide in a school, with a background in early childhood education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though their careers are diverse, all three found themselves drawn to the idea of learning to code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Driven by curiosity <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For Eliisa, the idea of learning to code had been on her mind for a couple of years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI wanted to see what coding is really about <\/strong>– how it works, how difficult it is. Going back to school felt like too big of a step, but taking a course seemed like the perfect way to get a brief introduction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kadri shared a similar sense of curiosity\u2014mixed with a bit of doubt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always wondered: is coding something I could do?<\/strong> I know coding all around us now\u2014you can\u2019t really avoid it anymore.<\/strong> So I thought, okay, let\u2019s try this bootcamp. Is it really that<\/em> hard like everyone says? Or could I actually understand it?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Esther, meanwhile, had already started exploring the idea of switching careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor the past two years, I\u2019ve been considering IT<\/strong>. I\u2019ve gone to career change conferences, taken courses in data, testing, and IT support. I like problem-solving and finding practical solutions, so coding felt like something that might be a good fit. When I heard about Empower at a career event, I thought\u2014it\u2019s now or never<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surprises during the bootcamp<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

What stood out most in the first weeks of the bootcamp? For each of them, something different came as a surprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eliisa was struck by just how collaborative coding can be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI used to think coding was a very solitary job\u2014just you and your screen. But actually, there\u2019s a lot of teamwork, asking for help, and learning from others. That really surprised me<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also discovered just how much time a tiny mistake can take to track down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou can spend so<\/em> long trying to fix one little error\u2014even on simple tasks!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Kadri, the most unexpected part was the personal growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m completely out of my comfort zone here. I\u2019ve realized I really need to be patient with myself.<\/strong> I can be impulsive and want to rush, but coding demands focus. Sometimes the mistake is something tiny\u2014a space or comma\u2014and it\u2019s frustrating. But it\u2019s taught me the value of stepping back and coming back to it with fresh eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Esther has enjoyed the way the program is built up step by step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI love how the structure makes it feel possible. You start from the basics and build up gradually. You can really see your own progress<\/strong>\u2014and that gives you confidence. It\u2019s exciting to feel like, wow, I can<\/em> actually do this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat would you say to someone unsure about trying?\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

All three agree: if you\u2019re even slightly curious about coding\u2014give it a shot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCome to kood\/Empower<\/strong>,\u201d says Eliisa. \u201cIt\u2019s a great introduction to this exciting world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kadri is just as clear: \u201cYou can do it. Yes, it can get frustrating\u2014it\u2019s new, so that\u2019s normal. But frustration is part of learning. Once you solve a problem, that feeling is amazing. Even if it turns out coding isn\u2019t your thing, at least you\u2019ll know. I think it\u2019s always worth trying.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And Esther adds: \u201cYou don\u2019t need to have everything figured out. Just take the first step.<\/strong> You might surprise yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
