Estonia has long been a leader in digital education, but even in a tech-forward country, access to quality programming education varies across regions. That\u2019s why \/\/kood is expanding its educational offering to schools across Estonia\u2014an initiative that started in V\u00f5rumaa, where local leaders in South-Estonia saw an opportunity to future-proof their region, far from the capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why did it start in V\u00f5rumaa?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
In V\u00f5rumaa, educators and local leaders recognised a challenge: how to prepare students for a digital future without easy access to practiocal IT education. They saw kood\/J\u00f5hvi\u2019s self-paced, peer-learning model as a perfect fit for their schools, providing students with flexible and practical programming courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By introducing these courses in local schools, V\u00f5rumaa took a pioneering step, ensuring young people in the region gain essential digital skills\u2014ones that will not only help them in Estonia\u2019s job market but also give them a global edge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bringing coding to schools across Estonia<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Inspired by V\u00f5rumaa\u2019s initiative, kood\/J\u00f5hvi is now offering programming courses to schools nationwide. Tallinn has already joined the initiative, with ten high schools integrating these courses into their curriculum from autumn 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The available courses are: \u2705 Introduction to Programming<\/strong> \u2013 a beginner-friendly gateway into coding \u2705 Web Development<\/strong> \u2013 building websites and interactive applications \u2705 Data Analysis<\/strong> \u2013 understanding and working with data<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Students can complete these courses at their own pace, learning through hands-on challenges in a format similar to how adult learners study at kood\/J\u00f5hvi. This means they\u2019re solving real problems and working collaboratively, just like in the tech industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

While the program was originally designed for gymnasium-level students, many of the core concepts\u2014like logic, problem-solving, and basic coding\u2014can be valuable for younger students as well. Schools interested in introducing digital skills earlier can also explore how these courses fit into their curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
kood\/V\u00f5ru \u2013 a new opportunity for adult learners<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Recognising the demand for digital skills beyond high school, kood\/J\u00f5hvi is also opening kood\/V\u00f5ru<\/strong>, a new campus for adult learners, with support from the V\u00f5ru Development Centre. This means that reskilling opportunities in tech will now be available directly in South Estonia, making it easier for locals to transition into IT careers without relocating to bigger cities. Whether you\u2019re a career switcher, entrepreneur, or just curious about coding, kood\/V\u00f5ru will offer a modern, peer-driven learning environment that has already helped hundreds of graduates break into the tech industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why it matters<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
According to ICT workforce studies, Estonia needs a steady pipeline of IT specialists to keep up with demand. By bringing programming courses into schools, we\u2019re helping students develop valuable skills early on, making it easier for them to pursue careers in tech\u2014or simply become more tech-literate, no matter their future profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
