Firstly, Taavet talked about the kind of competencies that successful entrepreneurs like him are looking for in people they hire and where universities and the school system falls short in getting folks ready for those kind of jobs. These are the core topics of this DLD Munich conversation between Gabi Zedlmayer (University of the People), Karin K\\u00fcnnapas (kood\\\/J\\u00f5hvi) and investor Taavet Hinrikus.\\n\\n\\u201cThe world is changing at a speed that we can\\u2019t comprehend\\u201d, Zedlmayer observes. \\u201cWe\\u2019re really transitioning from an old world where we knew the rules, to a new world that we don\\u2019t really understand.\\u201d\\n\\nNobody knows what the world will look like in 2030 or what skills the future of work will require, she argues. \\u201cSo what is it that we have to do to get our kids ready?\\u201d, Zedlmayer asks. \\u201cOr ourselves?\\u201d\\n\\nHinrikus, who successfully built the startup Transferwise into the global fintech Wise, believes that one of the keys to success in life and business is the ability to acquire new skills.\\n\\n\\u201cWe\\u2019re looking for people who know how to learn\\u201d, he says. \\u201cHowever, I don\\u2019t think that\\u2019s what the school system is producing.\\u201d\\n\\nWhat\\u2019s needed are \\u201cshorter educational programs that give people more practical skills\\u201d, he argues. \\u201cWe look at someone who comes out of a university and oftentimes they still don\\u2019t have any real skills.\\u201d\\n\\nIn that sense, the Estonian coding school kood\\\/J\\u00f5vi, which Hinrikus co-founded, \\u201cis really about how to fix a gap in the market\\u201d, he says.\\n\\nWhat makes the school special is that there are no teachers, no classes and everything is free for the students, Karin K\\u00fcnnapas explains. \\u201cAll the studying is done in a self-learning computer program. Everything is very practical. From day one, the students start solving coding tasks.\\u201d\\n\\nThat doesn\\u2019t mean there\\u2019s no interaction between the students, she makes clear.
