Jõhvi, Nairobi and Zhytomyr are sprinting into the world of coding!
At kood/Jõhvi, we believe the world is full of untapped coding talent, just waiting for the right moment to reshape the future. This week, we have Selection Sprint running in three locations: Jõhvi (Estonia), Nairobi (Kenya), and Zhytomyr (Ukraine).
With Selection Sprints (admissions tests) in full swing, a wave of fresh coding energy is sweeping across continents. Here’s a closer look at how these communities are kicking off their coding journeys:

🇪🇪 Jõhvi: 111 New sprinters begin their journey
In our hometown of Jõhvi, 111 ambitious new sprinters have kicked off their Sprint. Among them are future students preparing to join brand-new campuses in Võru and Paide.
There’s something special about this number too, 111 feels like a magic number, doesn’t it?
The energy in Jõhvi is sizzling (and not just because of the weather). From debugging their first lines of code to collaborating in teams, but also having fun. Morning yoga, volleyball tournament, and music quizzes are all part of the sprinters’ experience.

🇰🇪 Nairobi: 32 Sprinters take on coding
All the way in Nairobi, 32 sprinters were selected from over 130+ applicants and the stats here are especially exciting:
- Average age: 22
- Gender balance: 16 women and 16 men
- One sprinter even traveled all the way from Uganda 🇺🇬
Everyone’s loving the hands-on, collaborative learning style. Some had tried coding solo before – but say it’s way easier and more motivating in a group like this

🇺🇦 Zhytomyr: 32 Sprinters on their second week
Meanwhile in Zhytomyr, 32 motivated sprinters are already deep into week 2 of their Sprint at the Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University campus.
As part of the opening week, our Chief Product Officer Kaur Järvpõld held a hands-on workshop with the new students — and left impressed by their curiosity and energy. Dozens of questions, eager learners. Peer-learning is already alive and well in Zhytomyr.
kood/Zhytomyr brings our proven peer-learning and hybrid study approach to support Ukraine’s digital transformation and vocational reform. The goal? Help more people rapidly reskill and find meaningful work in tech.
Both Nairobi and Zhytomyr pilots are proudly supported by the Estonian Centre for International Development (ESTDEV).
